In Matthew 8:8 We read the story of the centurion who was a high ranking official. We know this because he says so. He had a tender heart for those in his care, even a servant that had become paralyzed and asked Jesus for help. Jesus offered to go to him but the centurion was ashamed for Jesus to come to his house so he told Jesus just to say the word and it would be carried out as he commanded. He knew what authority looked like and how it worked.
Mathew 8: 10-13 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, “I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! It will be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that very hour.
Jesus was stunned by his understanding of Jesus's authority and power. I'm sure he was thinking "If this Roman can receive this truth dark days are ahead for those called God's people."
The centurion was given knowledge from God concerning who Jesus was. We don't know how he arrived on this conclusion but he acted on that revelation and Jesus called it faith.
I firmly believe that it is revelation acted upon that secures us in Him. Jesus asked Peter. "who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "you are the Christ." He received a revelation.....spoke it out loud and it translated into faith and Jesus said:
Matthew 16:17 “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,c and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hadesd will not overcome it.
God gave the revelation Peter acted upon it and Jesus said it was good enough to build upon and all the forces of Hell could not overcome it. Sounds pretty good to me. Father God....guide me into all revelation and as I hear from you I pray that I will have the wisdom to know when and how to act on it. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
I will write more about this subject later. God seems to be focusing on revelation and authority a lot lately.
